The Equality Act 2010

What's the Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 seeks to provide a single, consolidated source of discrimination law, covering all types of discrimination that are unlawful.  Before the Equality Act came into force, disability discrimination law was contained in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

The Equality Act places a duty on employers and recruiters to make reasonable adjustments for candidates with disabilities at every stage of the recruitment process, including the assessment process, where those candidates are disadvantaged compared to candidates who do not have a disability. The Equality Act provides greater protection to disabled people applying for jobs than previous legislation.
