Open-Source Change: Strategies to Make your Change Efforts More Successful

Speaker: Clare Moncrieff

One constant exists in today’s work environment: change. In the past three years, the typical organisation has undertaken five enterprise changes: cultural change, restructuring, market expansion, leadership transition, or merger and acquisition. Two-thirds of these changes fail, which leads to drops in long-term engagement and performance. Our opening session will examine what organisations should be doing to be successful in today's constant change environment.

Competing for Critical Talent: Why You Need to Change What You Are Looking For
Speaker: Thomas Handcock

Demand for critical skill sets, particularly those in STEM, is increasing dramatically as skill needs converge across sectors. CEB analysis of the job postings of FTSE100 organisations in 2015 found that 40% of all posting activity was for just 21 roles. What’s more, two-thirds of those organisations were recruiting for each role. Organisations are faced with a very real talent crunch. This is further exacerbated by technologies that are quickly commoditising search and frustrating prospective talent who are becoming tired of recruiter spam. This session will focus on why organisations need to be much more flexible with their hiring needs, and how leading organisations are successfully expanding their labour market opportunity.

Reimagine Development & Performance
To Score or Not: Does the Business Case for Eliminating Performance Review Scores Hold?
Speaker: Brian Kropp

The debate over the impact of keeping or killing performance scores has never been hotter. Enough companies have made the decision to radically adjust scores to see if the promised business case holds true. In this session we will share our latest insights on the benefits that companies have achieved, or not, from eliminating performance scores in their organisation.

The Digital Learner: Delivering an Effortless Learning Experience
Speaker: Lee-Anne Vallée

Significant advances in technology, access to people and information, and shifting motivations have changed the way employees learn today. As a result, L&D functions are changing their approaches to learning and development but despite their efforts, only 37% of learning is applied on the job. Providing employees with an effortless learning experience has 2.7 times the impact on learning application than an engaging learning experience. In this session, we will share the latest insights on learning behaviours from our survey of 10,000 employees, the critical elements of an effortless learning experience, and discuss the practices of those organisations that are having success developing today’s Digital Learners.

Case Example: Philips
How Philips Uses Data Analytics to Revolutionise its Talent Attraction & Recruitment
Speakers: Alan Agnew, Lisa Chartier, Thomas Handcock

In this session, Philips will share the critical impact they have realized by taking a data-driven and innovation-led approach to their recruitment efforts. Solution areas presented will include the following: focusing on enhancing skill pipelines rather than filling open roles, developing and activating their EVP in a more relevant, differentiating way, educating stakeholders in the hiring process on how to effectively evaluate the “new” kinds of candidates best suited to meet their changing needs, and using market insights to influence long term employer of choice status for the company.

Rewards in the Era of Performance Management Transformation
Speaker: Monique McCloud-Manley

The effectiveness of performance management systems at almost every company is being questioned. In response heads of Total Rewards are being asked to rethink the relationship between pay and performance in an era of radical performance management transformation. This session will focus on how progressive companies are imagining new ways to assess talent and differentiate rewards that actually drive employee performance.

Reimagine Leadership & Talent Management
Organising HR to Lead Enterprise Change
Speaker: Clare Moncrieff

Rather than trying to improve the effectiveness of each individual change initiative, the best organisations improve their change capability to manage any change successfully. While improving the quality of individual change interventions can marginally improve the chances of change success, building a change-capable organisation can more than double the average organisation’s probability of change success. How can HR lead change-capable organisations to embed the lessons of successful changes into foundational structures and core processes to provide the flexible roles, equipped employees, and adaptable processes necessary to manage all changes more effectively?

Lost Stars: From Agile HIPOs to an Agile HIPO Strategy
Speaker: Mark Powell
Panellists: Jean Martin, Siân Ferguson, Anna Sanders

As organisations become flatter, and as the profile of the high performer evolves rapidly, organisations need to adopt a more flexible approach that builds future stars who will outperform in a wide variety of roles and contexts. At the same time, retaining HIPOs is a critical challenge. Less than 50% fully intend to stay with their organisations past the next 12 months. To add to the challenge, HR leaders must also create compelling value propositions for a new generation of rising leaders. How can organisations develop HIPO strategies that are agile enough to address the rapidly changing needs of both the organisation and its most promising employees?

Reimagine Leadership & Talent Management
CEB HR Leadership Academy Taster Session
Speaker: Jennifer McCollum

HR functions must be strategic partners equipped to influence business outcomes to be effective. However, 81% of HR business partners are ineffective at strategic activities. Strategic HR business partners who have the right competencies are able to improve revenue growth up to 10%, increase profitability up to 12%, and boost employee performance up to 25%. That’s why we developed CEB HR Leadership Academy with the HR business partner in mind, to help equip HR professionals with the necessary skills to provide the credible guidance required to improve business decisions and impact. In this session, you can experience CEB HR Leadership Academy first hand through a ‘taste’ of our learning experience and how we deploy our services both live and virtually. All of our programmes offer development, manager upskilling, post-session sustainability, and on-the-job application guidance.

Keynote Presentation with Herminia Ibarra

Today’s breakneck pace of change has an immense impact on leaders—and as a result, on the organisations they run. All too often, people remain stuck in outdated mindsets and modes of operating, even after others recognise the need for change. Leaders need to adapt even when there are no obvious signals guiding their way.

Leadership expert Herminia Ibarra upends traditional, introspective advice and says act first—and then change your way of thinking. Defying standard leadership development guidance, which encourages deep self-reflection into strengths and weaknesses, Ibarra shows that the most effective way to change is through action, not analysis, and by learning from experience, not introspection. Based on Ibarra’s flagship executive education program at INSEAD, this session it will teach you to change from the outside in by first acting like a leader and then thinking like one.

Linking Leadership Performance to Business Outcomes: The Latest in CEB Insight and Support
Speaker: Jennifer McCollum

Consideration of context in leader selection and development has become increasingly important. Companies and vendors alike are working to integrate context into their leadership programmes; however, considering nearly 50% of all leaders fail to meet their objectives after moving into a new role, the methods used to define and apply context in decision-making are highly variable and unproven. In this session, learn about how CEB is supporting leadership selection and development today, and our plans for the near future as we complete the largest research study in over 25 years to understand and enable leader performance. Our aspiration with the research -- and subsequent assessment services -- is to increase by 3x how you can accurately predict the likelihood of success for leaders in new positions by effectively applying role, team, and organisational context to the selection process.

Less Time, More Insight: Outcome Driven Assessment and Selection
Speakers: Dunstan Arthur, Thomas Handcock

An effective assessment approach – which may include interviews, role plays, psychometric tests and other tools – is critical to achieving quality hires. More information on candidates does however not necessarily lead to better quality (whilst it almost always leads to longer time-to-hire). This session will overview advances in talent assessment and provide a practical framework for deciding what to assess, how to assess it, and crucially how to make good hiring decisions using that information.

Panel Conversation: Continuous Listening for an Engaged Workforce
Facilitators: Steven Buck

Panelist: Caryn Baird, Miriam Earley

An increasing number of organisations are interested in listening to employee opinions as often as possible across the employee lifecycle – via such things as the onboarding process, pulse surveys, frequent performance reviews, and exit surveys. The most effective organisations combine multiple sources of data to create a compelling story of the employee experience. Advanced capabilities in text mining, sentiment analysis and network analysis have further expanded the way in which we think about harnessing insights on employees and how they might impact organisational performance. In this panel discussion, we will hear how different companies have acted on these insights and the extent to which it helps drive action and improve performance.
