You Asked

"How must L&D functions evolve to be more relevant for learning happening outside the function?"

The L&D function's traditional role as primary supplier of learning is misaligned with today's learning landscape, where the vast majority of employees' learning comes from outside the L&D function. Much of that learning is unproductive: more than half is of poor quality or focused on the wrong development needs.

Our Research Says

The majority of L&D functions orient around a “factory” model, where the function builds and supplies most L&D interventions, while putting in place governance and other controls to ensure quality of the learning they don't supply.

The most progressive L&D executives are redefining L&D from creating learning content to building the line's capability to learn and develop. In the resulting “franchise” model, L&D serves as the owner of best practice in learning design, content, and management, and must build the capabilities of the entire organization to implement these best practices.

What This Means for You

  • Identify the most critical objectives for the L&D function of the future.
  • Discover how to improve outcomes from all the learning happening outside the L&D function.
  • Learn how to manage needed changes to the roles and responsibilities of the L&D function.

The Digital Learner: Delivering an Effortless Learning Experience

This event is reserved for heads of Learning & Development with an existing CEB Learning & Development Leadership Council membership.

Technology and access to information have changed the way employees learn and consume information today. L&D functions have increased their spend by 16% in an attempt to engage employees with fun learning experiences, however while this has led to higher satisfaction with L&D products, only 37% of learning is applied on the job.  Join us to learn how the best L&D functions focus on creating an effortless learning experience, making learning easier for employees to consume, access, and apply.

You Asked

Significant advances in technology, access to people and information, and shifting motivations have changed the way employees learn today. How should we adapt our approach to learning and development?

Our Research Says

L&D functions have increased their spend by 16% in an attempt to engage employees by investing in more attractive and “fun” learning experiences. However, simply making learning fun does not make it productive. Only 39% of employees agree that L&D solutions help them get their jobs done. Instead, the best L&D functions focus more on enabling employees as learning partners, rather than engaging them as customers. They partner with employees to create learning experiences that lead to improved application and performance.

What this Means for You

  • Improve learning application by aligning L&D methods to employees' learning behaviors and preferences.
  • Direct employees away from poor-quality learning content and to the best individuals and expertise for enabling productive learning.
  • Increase returns on new L&D investments by increasing the scalability and long-term impact of learning experiences.
