Three Women in Power Share Secrets of Success

16 September, 2016

“Have a point of view and the confidence to express it.”

“Work for an employer you believe in.”

“You’re not negotiating for yourself, you are negotiating for every woman that comes after you.”

These were just some of the pieces of advice that three panelists shared during Women at CEB’s “Women in Power” event hosted in partnership with the DC chapter of the Ellevate Network, a global professional women’s network dedicated to the positive impact of women in business and the economic engagement of women worldwide.

The event panelists included:

Stephanie Williams, President, Bozzutto Property Management
Jodie McLean, CEO, EDENS
Jenny Abramson, Founder and Managing Partner, Rethink Impact

Throughout the discussion, the women chronicled their career journeys, detailing how themes such as self-advocacy, mentorship, and self-confidence have proven important as they ascend.

“As a leader, if you put people in the right places, you can be confident that they can make decisions,” said Williams.

Williams’ fellow panelists McLean and Abramson echoed her sentiment, outlining the importance of understanding when to delegate and when to ask for help.

“Let the people around you know what you need,” McLean said.

Abramson added that, “You can only do so much by yourself, and so much depends on other people.”

About 40 CEBers attended the event alongside several members of the Ellevate Network’s DC chapter, including President Meryl Bernstein who moderated the panel, and board member Sanola Daley.

The Women in Power panel was one of several events Women at CEB has hosted this year as part of its 2016 spotlight on Authentic Leadership. The group will continue to partner with the Ellevate Network, including an October event in London and ongoing investment in connecting CEB employees to the powerful resources provided by Ellevate.
