Infographic: The Growth of Gift Cards in 2015

The sector goes from strength to strength

Gift card transactions in the US increased to $130 billion across all sectors in 2015, which represented significantly better growth than overall retail sales. Spillage, or the amount of value consumers leave unspent on a card, continues to drop, to well below 1% of value loaded on to cards .

CEB data also predict a continued surge in the use of electronic gift cards, with 2015 data forecasting a 26% increase over 2014 to $7.1 billion.

All signs point to continued growth in the use of gift cards through 2016, and especially an increased push towards more digital and online use.
