Business Lessons from My First Job

More than any other feature, what separates family businesses from the rest of the economy is their complete disregard for any and all rules regarding child labor. So, like many people who grew up in and around family businesses, my first work experience came in my mom’s family’s business, a carnival. Not figuratively a carnival, a real travelling carnival that moved (and still moves) from town to town throughout New England.
